Over the past several weeks the South County Economic Development Council has worked to bring you a series of webinars with our local elected officials.  This series was designed to replace the Elected Officials Reception traditionally held in October.  Today more than ever it is important to ensure our communities and community leaders remain in close communication.  We strive to ensure this two-way communication is available to our members so they can hear firsthand and share their views on important issues.

The webinar series kicked off on Tuesday November 10th with two great mayors from our partner cities, Mayor Serge Dedina of Imperial Beach and Mayor Mary Casillas Salas of Chula Vista.  It was amazing to hear directly from them the efforts being taken to help support businesses and residents alike through this trying time.  Both communities have made programs and funds available to help navigate challenging waters.  We have recorded the session and encourage you to view the program if you were unable to attend: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9vHP22I5vA

November 17th provided an opportunity to meet with California Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez of the 80th and San Diego County Supervisor-Elect Nora Vargas.  The Assemblywoman shared legislative successes from the past year including a program designed to get capital into the hands of businesses as they grow.  Supervisor-Elect Vargas shared insight into priorities and opportunities as she prepares for the beginning of her term.  Take a moment and view the webinar here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toAcw8RDpOE

San Diego County Supervisor Greg Cox and San Diego Mayor-Elect Todd Gloria joined us on December 1st.  Supervisor Cox shared the great news that the County Board of Supervisors approved an additional $20 million in business relief funding while also reflecting on some of the major accomplishments of an illustrious and dedicated career.  Mayor-elect Gloria laid out an aggressive and strategic vision for moving the City and region of San Diego forward as Mayor.  Visit our video page to hear from two tremendous partners: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8Jz1rZVG2s

As the webinar series comes to a close on December 8th, we welcome Mayor Alejandra Sotelo-Solis of National City and Councilman John McCann of Chula Vista.  We looked forward to discussing navigating through the COVID-19 Pandemic and what programs are available within their communities.  Additionally, looking to the future, it will be great to hear what is in store for both cities in 2021.  To register for the program please use the following link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/elected-officials-webinar-series-december-8th-tickets-131243862927?aff=erelpanelorg

We would like to thank the committed officials of our local community for their time and commitment to meeting with our business leaders.  Additional thanks go to Cox Communications for helping sponsor portions of the series and their continued commitment to providing outstanding service to our community.  As we look to 2021, we will seek new opportunities and ways to bring our community leaders together with the businesses which make the South County great.
