Clarissa’s election is not just a personal victory; it is a historic one. She now stands as the first person of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) heritage to lead the Commission. Her leadership represents a significant shift for the San Diego region, marking the first time in nearly two decades that a Chair has hailed from the area.
As the past Chair and a current esteemed member of the South County Economic Development Council, Clarissa has long been a champion for equitable and resilient infrastructure. Her new role will see her overseeing the allocation of billions in state and federal funds for passenger rail, transit, and climate-focused projects.
Joining her in this new chapter is Joseph Cruz, who was elected as Vice Chair. As the Executive Director of the California State Council of Laborers, Cruz brings a deep understanding of the 75,000+ workers who build the very roads and rails that connect our communities.
Together, this leadership team is poised to accelerate California’s multi-modal future, ensuring that the state’s transportation system is as diverse and resilient as the people it serves. Please join us in celebrating Clarissa on this prestigious, well-deserved appointment!
