The South County Economic Development Council has always understood and supported the relationship our region has with our economic counterparts in Mexico. This relationship impacts us all daily whether it be through workforce, commerce, logistics, or lifestyle. As an economic development organization, we have brought attention to and advocated for many initiatives including our two most recent board crossing additions. As we look to the future of the SCEDC we are eager to announce the formation of the Bi-National Committee to help focus our voice and initiatives.

Two weeks ago, we brought together a contingent of business partners within the South County EDC who have work tirelessly on bi-national initiatives and programs. Throughout the discussion the tremendous efforts being put forth by a very diverse group of organizations highlighted the need for a unified voice. The SCEDC will be holding a bi-national committee meeting the second Friday of each month at 10 AM.

Reaching out to our partners in Mexico we have received interest and commitment from economic development organizations in Ensenada, Mexicali, Rosarito, Tecate, and Tijuana. We all see an opportunity to unite efforts surrounding key initiatives impacting the region. With the new USMCA going into effect in July, our two regions will face many changes. As partners in building a strong regional economy we all see the importance in collaboration and communication.

We encourage you to join the group and share your thoughts on initiatives and programs. As both countries focus on a safe re-opening of the economy and shared border it is imperative to work together. The meeting on June 12, 2020 will have a presentation on the cross-border health initiatives taking place.

To learn more about the committee and to get involved please e-mail Efrain Ibarra at Efrain@SouthCountyEDC.com. We look forward to seeing you on our Zoom call.
