It is amazing to think it is coming up on five months since first joining the South County Economic Development Council. In that time, it has been challenging and tremendously rewarding to work with our businesses and community partners. There has been no shortage of opportunity to engage even in a time when it is impossible to do business as normal. In fact, it is the lack of normalcy which has presented the most amazing interactions.
During the first couple of weeks of being part of the team here we focused on outreach and getting to know businesses and individuals in the South County. The tremendous outpouring of knowledge and dedication has led me to want to create a more regular dialogue with those most invested in the South County. Over the coming weeks we will launch a monthly series of interactive video conferences focused on hearing from you and helping you to stay connected with others in the community. The fall of each year has marked the bringing together of our elected officials in the South County to connect you with those focused on leading our community. While the ongoing pandemic presents interesting challenges to the format of this type of gathering the need still exists. To help facilitate access and regular input we will move our Elected Officials Forum online. To ensure everyone has ample time to hear from and interact with their representatives, we will also spread the program out. Rather than be a one-day session we will engage in a semi-weekly format with different representatives on each video call.
In the coming months we will be adding tools to help create better visibility and access to those who have invested in the work of the SCEDC. As a member of the organization we will be providing you with a portal on our website to better highlight your business and what you do. Additionally, we are exploring opportunities to drive information into the hands of residents surrounding what we do and who makes it all possible. Print and digital opportunities are in the process of being developed to give even greater visibility to our members.
One of the things I have enjoyed the most about the brief time I have been with the SCEDC is the interaction with each of you. Though I have not been able to visit businesses as I would like to it has been eye opening conversing with several hundred businesses these past couple of months. With the unprecedented challenges being faced, now more than ever the SCEDC is here to assist in anyway we can. I encourage you to email me at jim@southcountyedc.com and continue to discuss how together we can move towards a full and greater future.
