The City of San Diego is embarking on a major redevelopment project at the Brown Field Municipal Airport, which officials say will be the largest general aviation airport redevelopment on the West Coast. On Monday June 10th, Mayor Todd Gloria joined city officials and representatives from the Federal Aviation Administration to officially break ground on the project.
The centerpiece of the redevelopment is the addition of a new fixed-base operator (FBO) at the airport, which will include a general aviation customs inspections facility. This will allow for smoother international travel and trade through the airport. “This will have an economic impact of $1.5 billion for our region and support about 2,500 good-paying local jobs,” Gloria said.
Among those in attendance was our CEO Jim O’Callaghan of the South County Economic Development Council (SCEDC), Fore more on this story please visit 10News here.
